The "Apple Shed" houses the Farm Market, a commercial kitchen, a packing room with an apple-sorting line, a cold-storage room and a cider press room.
Growing fresh fruit is one of the goals of Garritys' Prairie Gardens & Hebda Family Produce, and producing value-added products from their fruit is another. Jams, jellies and apple butter are made weekly in small batches in the Garrity kitchen. Made-from-scratch fruit pies are also prepared. Fresh Salsa and other unique home canned items are produced in our kitchen as the fruits & vegetables come in season. During apple season, apple cider is fresh-pressed and bottled. For holiday gift-giving or anytime, the Garritys design unique and tasteful Gift Crates, Gift Baskets and mail-order Gift Boxes that your family and friends will enjoy receiving. Fresh-picked strawberries, raspberries and apples are also available in season. Shop in the charming Farm Market for these fine Garrity products and many other items.
Meet Our Family
Hebda Family Produce started out in 2002 as a 4H project. Our oldest son Steven began growing vegetables in our backyard to exhibit at the Bon Homme County fair and for us to eat. What began as a project has now a full-scale business. Steven began doing farm markets in Yankton with the assistance of his family and has established a weekly home delivery service of fresh vegetables. People want to know where their food comes from and that it is fresh.
Our family has been actively involved in farming (Dale and Rena were raised on the farm), doing the farm markets and growing fresh vegetables we saw the purchase of Garritys' Prairie Gardens as an opportunity to combine the fruits and vegetables and provide a variety of foods. We utilize these products in the making of Jams, Jellies, Salsa, Spaghetti Sauce, and Frozen Corn.
Garritys' Prairie Gardens located at Mission Hill is an orchard and berry farm which includes strawberries, elderberries, raspberries, and plums along with over 10 varieties of apples encompassing 55 acres.
